Cocaine Addiction Help in Ireland: A Clear Guide to Your Options

By Gary Clinton·Cocaine addiction specialist·Author of Never Give Up·Updated July 2026 · 7 min read

Cocaine use in Ireland has risen sharply over the last decade, and it's no longer confined to any one city or crowd — it runs through offices, building sites, sports clubs and quiet suburban homes right across the country. With that has come a lot of people privately wondering how to stop, and unsure where help even begins. If that's you, this is a clear, honest guide to the cocaine addiction help available in Ireland, from the free public services to confidential private support, so you can find the route that fits.

Cocaine addiction help in Ireland: your main options

Broadly, there are three routes, and they're not mutually exclusive. The first is the free public system: the HSE Drugs and Alcohol Helpline (1800 459 459) is a free, confidential, national first port of call, and your GP can refer you into HSE-funded community drug and alcohol services and your Local or Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force, which run projects the length and breadth of the country. Drugs.ie is the HSE's information site and lists services nationally.

The second is community and peer support, such as fellowship groups that meet across Ireland and online, which many people use alongside other help. The third is private, professional one-to-one support — which is what I offer. I'm Gary Clinton, an addiction specialist in long-term recovery myself, and I work with people one to one, privately and online, anywhere in Ireland and beyond. I don't run a residential clinic; I offer confidential support you can access from home, around your work and family, wherever in the country you live.

60-second check-in

Quick check: where are you with it?

Five honest questions. Nothing is saved or sent — your result appears only on your screen.

1. Do you use more than you planned to, or carry on longer than you meant to?

2. Have you tried to cut down or stop and found you couldn't?

3. Does cocaine take up a lot of your time, money or headspace?

4. Has it caused problems with work, money or people close to you — and you carried on anyway?

5. Do you need more for the same effect, or feel low, flat or anxious when you stop?

Which route is right, and where to start

There's no single correct answer — the best route is the one you'll actually use. If cost is the main issue, the free HSE services are real and worth using. If privacy and flexibility matter most, or you want dedicated one-to-one attention around a busy professional life, that's exactly what private online support is for. Many people combine them. The one mistake is doing nothing because the choice feels overwhelming.

If you're not even sure your use has crossed a line, start there rather than with logistics. An honest read of am I addicted to cocaine? and the confidential self-assessment will tell you more than any amount of worrying. And if fear of the fallout is the real block, how to quit cocaine without derailing your career and what happens when you stop cocaine take the mystery out of what lies ahead.

If you need support right now — Ireland: HSE Drugs & Alcohol Helpline 1800 459 459 · UK: FRANK 0300 123 6600 · In crisis: Samaritans 116 123 (free, 24/7).

If there's one thing I'd leave you with, it's this: wherever you are in Ireland, and whatever your budget or circumstances, there is a real route to help — and you don't have to figure out the whole map tonight. You only have to take one step: a free call to the HSE helpline, a chat with your GP, or a confidential conversation with me. Cocaine addiction is one of the most treatable problems I know of when someone reaches for help, and I've watched people from every corner of this country build a settled life on the far side of it.

That's the work I do, quietly and one to one, with people right across Ireland: no judgement, no labels, complete confidentiality, and a practical way forward that fits your real life. You don't have to do it on your own.

Frequently asked questions

What free cocaine addiction help is there in Ireland?

The HSE Drugs and Alcohol Helpline on 1800 459 459 is a free, confidential, national first port of call, and your GP can refer you into HSE-funded community drug and alcohol services and your Local or Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force, which run projects across the country. Drugs.ie is the HSE information site and lists services nationally. These are real and worth using, especially if cost is the main issue.

What is the difference between public and private cocaine help?

Public services through the HSE are free and available nationally, usually accessed through the helpline or a GP referral. Private one-to-one support, which is what I offer, is confidential, flexible and delivered online around your work and family, with dedicated individual attention. Neither is automatically better, and many people combine them; the best route is the one you will actually use.

Do I have to go to residential rehab to stop using cocaine?

No, residential rehab is only one option and is not necessary for many people. Plenty stop with community services, fellowship groups, or confidential one-to-one support online, or a combination of these, without ever going residential. The right level of help depends on your situation, and it is worth talking it through rather than assuming you need the most intensive option.

How do I know if I need help for cocaine?

It comes down to the cost to your life, relationships, money and peace of mind far more than the amount you use, and many people who look fine are quietly struggling. An honest read of the markers or a confidential self-assessment is a calm way to see where you stand. If you are asking the question at all, it is usually worth reaching out to someone.
